My time before leaving home, for what I consider an interesting life.

   Royal Canadian Navy
   Updated   2 July 1999
Nothing can be more exciting than serving in the Royal Canadian Navy.
As they say in the advertisements, join the Navy and see the world. You do see quite a good portion of it. And can run into some very exciting, and sometimes scary, moments, even in peace time.

  Flying Gliders
  Updated  23 May 1999
There is nothing more beautiful than flying gliders. It is quiet and a real sport where the pilot gets it up, not an engine. (Except for the tow).

  Power Flying
  Updated   30 May 1999
Flying powered aircraft is the best way to get from one place to another. It is also great for site seeing. My favourite time in a powered plane was towing gliders.

  Holiday Travels
  Updated   8 July 1999
My wife and I used to travel a lot. We visited quite a few places from Africa to California. Nothing is better for an amateur photographer.

My Life In A Nutshell

The attached pictures are shown in small size and may be shown in full by clicking on the picture, then click on "Back" to to return to the page. Most of the pictures were taken by me (not the ones that I am in). Pictures of ships and aboard the Maggie on my first stretch are not mine. The ones taken on my second period on the Maggie are mine.

My name is Donald Dunn. I was born in North Bay, Ontario on 11 February, 1928. At the age of 18 I left home and joined the Royal Canadian Navy. I married Marjorie Blades, of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in Halifax, NS,    9 September, 1949, my true love.

In 1968 I retired from the Navy after 22 1/2 years, and joined Food and Drugs, Health and Welfare, Canada. I spent my last 19 years before retirement in Ottawa, Ontario. We then moved to Yarmouth.

On 20th July, 1969, the day that Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon, I had my first lesson as a glider pilot. A few years later I took up power flying as well. Gliders are the best. My time in-flight in gliders is 555 hours with 1,248 flights, the longest 5 hours and 36 minutes and the highest 10,000'. Had to stop climbing because of no oxygen in the aircraft. Of this time 349 hours was as first pilot, 24 under instruction and check flights and 182 as an instructor. About 161 of my 330 hours in power aircraft was done towing gliders.

I have another Web Page. It is about South West Nova Scotia. It contains pictures from seaside towns that we tend to visit because of the beauty of the different areas. If you would like to take a look at it the click on the next line
